A Border Meeting

Back at camp cats bustled as they followed Ghoststar's orders to prepare for the rouge attack. Brambles were being woven into the camp wall and dens strengthened, mentors were out with their Apprentices refreshing and securing their fighting skills, warriors had mock battles with each other, and herbs were sorted and resorted. Ghoststar had spent her day weaving brambles into the dense foliage that made the camp wall. Her white paws stung from being pricked and there was a good scratch across her nose. She now sat in her den taking a break from the cold and physical exertion.
For the most part she was satisfied with the work that was being done. The camp was looking stronger and more fit for defense, cats were beginning to refresh and solidify their battle moves. Still, Ghoststar couldn't help but worry. The snow had killed most all the herbs in the forest and their stocks were running low. She could only prey they would have enough to heal cats after a deadly battle with rouges. Not only that, but the snow also affected the prey pile. Hunting had been a tough job in the past moon and the cats had only caught enough to keep off the edge of hunger. Will we be strong enough to fight for our lives? "Ghoststar?"
The white she-cat jumped at the sound of her name. Featherstorm stood there with a mouse between her jaws, ears pricked. She dropped it at her leader's paws and took a paw step back. "I didn't mean to startle you, I just thought you'd be hungry. We had a successful hunt today actually." The silver she-cat purred, giving her cold paws a lick. Ghoststar purred gratefully, taking a bite of the warm creature. It was refreshing to have something warm in her belly.
"Thank you, Featherstorm. You've turned out to be a very good warrior." She praised, tucking her paws in tighter beneath her. Her thoughts were swamped with images of cats pelts being torn and screeching in the air. The snow drifted by lazily, chilling the air and giving no comfort to the worried cat. Featherstorm puffed up her chest at the compliment, then noticed her leader's anxious behavior.
"Ghoststar, are you okay?" Her ears swiveled back as she asked, blue eyes filled with concern. Ghoststar was about to answer that she was fine when there was a yowl from the Nursery. The white she-cat was on her paws in a second. The rouges have attacked! They've gone straight for the Nursery! She bolted toward the den, ignoring the numbness of her paws. The buzzing of her nine lives filled her body with energy and she was ready to defend the expecting Dawnflight against any and all rouges that dared show their claws. She felt Featherstorm hard on her paws.
"Dawnflight are you okay!?" Ghoststar growled as she pushed into the den, her white fur bristling and claws unsheathed. The ginger and white Queen lay on her side, her plump belly tensing then relaxing over and over again. She let out another painful wail. Ghoststar realized what was happening. There was no scent or sign of rouges. Dawnflight was going to have her kits. Now? Of all times? When we're waiting an attack! Ghoststar felt a new rise of anxiety but pushed it away.
"Featherstorm, fetch Scorchtooth now!" She snapped, beginning to lick the pain stricken Queen on the head. "Shh, its okay. You're going to be fine." Dawnflight's eyes were filled with anguish as she claws the den's bedding and quivered with effort. Scorchtooth hurry!

Outside of camp Spade, Snakefang, and Thistlefur continued their patrol. Snakefang had been lucky to catch a squirrel and dug in the hard snow to bury it to fetch later. The air was chill and quiet, the only sound was the soft crunching of the cats as they padded on through the trees, shadows being dappled across their pelts as weak sunlight shone through the branches. Spade suddenly stopped when a familiar, yet foreign scent met his nose. Roseclan. It was too strong to just be a old border scent mark. This was fresh. There was a patrol nearby. His green eyes searched the thinner trees across the border, narrowing when he caught sight of calico, black, and ginger fur.
Three cats were chatting happily as they remarked the border, kicking up snow as they went along. Snakefang noticed Spade had stopped and padded over to him. "Whats the matter? Snow froze you solid?" His tone was slightly lighter than when they fought in camp. The brown tom flicked his nose ahead to where the Roseclan cats were. Snakefang followed his gesture to see them, and his hackles immediately rose. Thislefur came beside them as his clanmates watched with narrowed eyes. "They better not cross the border."
Snakefang recognized Almonddash, their deputy. He was taking his clanmates dangerously close to the thin line of scent that separated the two territories.

Almonddash lead his patrol at a trot through the snow. They mewed about a good hunt they had yesterday when suddenly he stopped, raising his thickly furred tail. "Wait..." His nose twitched and his eyes began to scan across the border. Fresh Twilightclan scent. The calico tom's heart began to thud as he imagined Darkmoon crouching in the thick brush in Twilightclan territory.

   Tension crackled in the air.

  1. Dawnflight's fur bristled with pain. Her wails exhausted her, she didnt think giving birth would hurt that much.

Spottedpaw and Redclaw were training in the padded down hallow. "Like this?" She meowed with confusion as she swiped a swift paw.

Blackfoot ran over to the nursery fur on end, "what!? Everyone okay!?" He said with a ready paw.

  2. Redclaw nodded jumping around dodging the pretty she-cats strikes. "Yeah but dont hold back because in battle your opponent wont hesitate to strike.

Streampaw felt proud of the work she did with Browfur and Ghoststar. Her fur rose as she heard wails and yowls come from the nursery.

  3. Tawnynight jumped awake having heard the poor queen kitting, accidentally kicking Shadowpelt in the jaw. "Hey, watch it!" The calico she-cat hissed rolling over and getting out of the den. "Sorry Shadowpelt..."she said stretching quietly.

Shadowpelt shook out her long fur and grooming it a little to look presentable her jaw screamed in pain as she yawned.

Whitewhisper's fur rose at the sound of terror. the rouges. Here? Now? her tail straight as she raced over from eating a small mouse. The white and striped cat's tail looked feathery and fluffed. Her amber eyes bright and terrified.

  4. Brownfur flicked up her ears, then realized what was happening. She looked to Streampaw, "Don't worry, Dawnflight will be fine. She's kitting." She began to get worried. The Clan barely had food for themselves, and now they would have more mouths to feed.

Spade growled softly. The RoseClan cats were nearby. He distinguished three different cat scents, not enough for an attack. He looked at Snakefang and Thistlefur. "Be alert, but don't be hostile. I think it's just a patrol."

  5. Snakefang nodded, being silent as he continued on through the snow and trees. His eyes were focused on Almonddash, who drifted closer and closer to the border. The calico tom's green eyes seemed to shine with curiosity.

Almonddash looked at his clanmates, Ravenfeather and Honeyfur. "I need you two to go around that way, we have to be cautious. Im going to check this way." He waited for the two to pad away before he carefully padded into Twilightclan territory, ducking through the brush. "Darkmoon?" He called out softly.

  6. Spade's fur bristled. Why wasn't the calico one, who he had forgotten the name of, stopping at the border? The other two cats respected the boundary. He growled and flattened his ears. He regarded Snakefang and Thistlefur. "We need to chase him out. Whatever he's doing, it has gone far enough."

  7. Snakefang nodded, his claws unsheathing and lip curling. "We'll surround him and attack from all sides. Just enough to get him to turn tail running." He suggested, readying his muscles.

Almonddash didn't smell Darkmoon's sweet tang in the air, but he definitely smelt Twilightclan. Had he made a mistake? Maybe this was a patrol, and he had clearly just crossed the border. What have I done?

  8. Scorchtooth growled to himself, frustration seeping into his fur. He found no catmint in sight on his patrol with Ash and Honey, only one or two leaves from a frozen, almost dead, stem. Stormclaw was doing worse than ever, and Scorchtooth was wondering how long the elder cat could go on for. When he started to think he couldn't be stressed enough, a sharp yowl exploded in the air. Swiveling around out of his den, and seeing cats cluster around the nursery, his mind quickly made the connection. After clumsily searching through his supplies, he exited his den. "Get out of my way, mousebrains. Or do you think you could help?" He hissed as he shouldered his way through the hoard of cats. "And someone fetch Silverpaw!"

Owlflight bounced with excitement. "I wonder how many she'll have?" She was discussing with a fellow warrior as Scorchtooth butted them all aside, to which she gave a low growl of annoyance.

  9. Spade nodded. His tension with Snakefang was gone. It was more urgent to get the trespasser out of the territory. His territory. "Yes. Snakefang, you take him from his left flank, and Thistlefur you come in from the right. I'll run at him straight on, and together we should be able to drive him back to RoseClan territory."

  10. Snakefang nodded, padded silently in a crouch to the left flank of the calico tom. Almonddash looked from side to side frantically, his paws seemed frozen to the spot. The tabby tom waited for his fellow warriors to be in place before he launched himself at the Roseclan cat with a screech. He only threw in rough blows, quickly jumping back.

Almonddash yowled in surprise as he was attacked.

Ghoststar got out of the way as Scorchtooth rushed in. Silverpaw, she would get the young Apprentice. The white she-cat raced back into camp. "Silverpaw!!" She yowled for her, searching the dens. Is she outside of camp?? Time seemed ticked by and each second counted.

  11. Brownfur began to get worried. Silverpaw was no where to be found. "Streampaw, I need you to go outside of camp and search for Sliverpaw. It's important that she is with Scorchtooth."

Spade watched as Snakefang started the attack. He then leaped forward, hissing and lashing out with a few quick paw strikes. The RoseClan cat seemed confused and nervous, as if he didn't mean to wander into the territory. If he wasn't here for hostility's sake... why was he here?

  12. Ravenfeather jumped at her deputies yowl of surprise. Twilightclan! the others clan's scent filled her nostrils making her fur bristle. The black and white furred she-cat dashed over to Almonddash, as Snakefang went for another strike she knocked him straight to the ground claw to full extent. she nipped at the tom with sharp teeth, holding him down with silvery claw he was not to get up and move until she was told otherwise.

Honeyfur didnt hesitate to race back to Almonddash when she heard his cries. as she swiftly made her way to the calico tom she skidded to a stop standing next to him waiting for an order.

Silverpaw was out of camp looking for the well needed herb for green cough. her paws ached from the frost that buried deep into her claw-less paws.

Shadowpelt calmed down as she realized what was going on. she sat next to Owlflight and nodded,"yeah!"

The other two she-cats did the same as they let out a sigh of relief.

  13. Streampaw nodded and trotted into the forest calling out Silverpaw's name. the snow made it hard for the young apprentice to see the white she-cat. "Silverpaw! Silverpaw where are you!? Dawnflight is kitting!"

  14. Snakefang was shocked when he was attacked by the dark cat. He kicked her under belly with fierce claws.

Almonddash felt panic sweep over him as his clanmates attacked the Twilightclan cats. It was his fault this fight happened and cats were getting hurt. "Stop, retreat!!" He yowled.

Ghoststar also seached for Silverpaw, yowling her name into the snowy air.

  15. Ravenfeather hissed in pain but jumped off and followed close behind.

Honeyfur was confused but ran side by side with Almonddash, "what was that!?" She spat harshly.

  16. (Oh yea haha forgot about sliverpaw /'^.^\)

Silverpaw heard her name being called and stopped her search and followed the voices. Her eyes watchful for movement.

  17. Spade watched as the RoseClan cats fled through the bushes. He flicked an war. "First they trespass onto our territory, then they attack us for responding." He felt a growl rumble in his throat. He knew groups of cats shouldn't live next to each other. He looked at his patrol. Snajefang wasn't badly hurt, and Thistlefur barely got a scratch. "Let's head back to camp and report this immediately."

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ghoststar saw Silverpaw and rushed to her. "Scorchtooth needs you! Dawnflight is kitting!" Worry was in her gray eyes. She scented Streampaw nearby. "I find her!" She called to the she cat.

Snakefang licked a spot of blood from his shoulder. "Okay." He agreed, just as confused. The tabby headed back with his patrol.

Almonddash looked at his clanmate. "I'm sorry..." He didn't know how to explain himself. His green eyes filled wig guilt, looking from one cat to the other. "This was all just a miss understanding."

  19. Once Spade and his patrol entered camp, they were greeted with Dawnflight's yowling and cats whispering anxiously in groups. "This has been an eventful day," he commented in a grumble. Ghoststar wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Brownfur noticed the patrol returned out of the corner of her eye. She noticed Snakefang carried light wounds, and quickly assumed they had something to report. "Ghoststar should return shortly," she told them. "She's looking for Silverpaw outside of camp."

    ReplyDelete
  20. Scorchtooth growled under his breath. Although this would have been a good learning experience, he would have to carry on without Silverpaw. "You're going to have to start pushing soon, Dawnflight." He remarked, shuffling through his herbs. "Get ready, okay?" The queen nodded, and he turned towards the cats who seemed to be guarding the entrance of the nursery. "Back up, would you? Or is this the first time you've seen a kit?" He hissed. "But if you're going to stay, at least make yourself helpful. Somebody grab a stick, you mousebrains!" He turned his back to them before any of them could reply. "And hurry!"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Silverpaw's eyes widened and high tailed it back to camp. She pushed her eay through to the den, "im here. im here.."she said while looking at Dawnflight.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Misunderstanding!? Right now for all we know they could be planning an attack! What were you looking for!? What was SO important!? Huh?"she bristled as she spoke. "Im being to question your loyalty to Roseclan. Why wouldnt you fight?" She shook her head and didnt care to know any of the questions she bombarded at him.

Raveneather nodded calmly, then looked at him for an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Almonddash began to bristle at her accusations. "That's enough! I don't have to answer to you." He snapped, his ears flat and green eyes sharp. "Im the Deputy here and if Echostar trusts me thats good enough for me. I don't need your questioning or approval." The calico tom wasn't usually hostile with his clan mates. What could he say? He was looking for his forbidden love? Of course not. "Let's just finish the patrol and get back to camp."

Ghoststar came back to camp with Silverpaw, seeing Spade and his patrol with Brownfur. She padded up, sensing something wasn't right. They shouldn't have been back already and Snakefang smelled slightly of blood. "What happened?" She demanded as she padded up to the group of cats, her ears pricked and eyes full of concern.

Snakefang looked at Spade to explain, licking a few shallow wounds on his dark tabby pelt.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Honeyfur cocked her head at the calico tom, then added. "Well fine you can tell Echostar what you were looking for." Her ears layed back as she continued walking.

Ravenfeather was concerned for her clanmate. "Are you okay at least? " her amber eyes soft but full of worry.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Spade decided that since he was the leader of the patrol, it was his job to report what they had seen. "Over by the west side of the territory, we ran into a RoseClan patrol. One of their cats snuck onto our territory. When we tried to chase him out, his clanmates attacked us. It wasn't long before they retreated."

    ReplyDelete
  26. Almonddash looked at Ravenfeather. She looked nearly just like Darkmoon. He sighed heavily, forcing his paws not to drag. "Im fine...I just made a mistake." He began to question his relationship with the Twilightclan she-cat. It was beginning to impair his judgement and ability to act as Deputy. But I love her...

Ghoststar's fur bristled. "How dare they!" She growled, her ears flattening. What kind of cats went on another clans territory and then attacked that clan's patrol? "This will not go without a counter act." She spat, thinking she should warn Echostar that Twilightclan should not be messed with. We can't have Roseclan attack us and these rouges! More stress was added to her shoulders.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "Everyone makes mistakes. No ones perfect..we just care about you. And are worried..for you."her words soft to the touch and spoke of the truth. Her amber met his, the look he gave, her pelt felt hot so looked away almost flattening her ears.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Streampaw walked behind Ghoststar before breaking off into the clan and only heard. "How dare they!!" Curiosity pricked atbher paws but she ignored it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Almonddash nodded, keeping his eyes ahead as she looked away. "Thank you, Ravenfeather." He knew he'd have some explaining to do to Echostar.

Ash and Honey sat back aways from the Nursery, praying everything was going okay inside. Ash turned his head as he heard Ghoststar. His claws itched and a low growl rose in his throat as he heard of the attack and saw the patrol licking wounds. The black spotted tom gave his pelt a shake. This isn't my tribe. I don't have to fight in their personal quarrels, he reminded himself.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Spade nodded. He felt sorry that the leader had to deal with so much at once, but the report needed to be told to her. He looked at his patrol, "You're dismissed. We've done our job."

Brownfur flattened her ears. A Clan and a rogue group against them? It seemed like the whole forest wanted them dead. Her eyes wandered to the nursery. Perhaps the new kits would be a light of hope.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Scorchtooth muttered a greeting to Silverpaw. "Decided to finally show up?" He meowed without looking up from his herbs. "You're lucky you didn't miss everything. Try to calm Dawnflight down, and tell me how her breathing is. The kits should be arriving shortly..."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ravenfeather nodded and quietly continued walking.

Silverpaw apologized and spoke to the queen,"just breath..contril your breathing, go in rhythm if need be.." her voice was unsure as she looked at Scorchtooth for guidance.

  33. Snakefang went into the Warriors den to warm his frozen paws. News spread fast and he heard of the kits delivery. "Great..." More mouths to feed and when enemies were everywhere.

Ghoststar waited to see how the delivery was going. She prayed for the young kits. Rouges, Roseclan, starvation, cold...she worried.
