Nine Lives, Use Them Wisely..

Ghoststar wasn't seeing anything. The air was cool and cold, its chill beginning to sink through her fur. "Where are you?" She muttered, hoping starclan might here. They had spent enough time in Roseclan territory, the smell was making her fur bristle. What if they had gone on forbidden territory for nothing? Suddenly, there was motion that caught Ghoststar's attention. A dark red pelt was manifesting in the corner of her vision. The white she cat dared turn her head: her breath caught in her throat as a she-cat was right beside her, looking at her with faded green eyes. The moment was fast, for the figure turned and briskly headed farther into the woods, its image faltering slightly. "Scorchtooth!!" Ghoststar hissed as quietly as she could, but still loud enough to catch his attention. There was no time to wait for him, she dashed through the trees after the starlit cat.
Scorchtooth flattened his ears, crouching slightly as her urgent mew caught in the air: the ever so silent air. Of course any cat would have heard that! The black tom looked over to her about to make a sarcastic retort, but the white she-cat's pelt was already flashing through the trees. Scorchtooth thought he saw something in front of her, but he couldn't make it out. With his heart skipping a beat, he dashed after her.
Where is she leading me? Ghoststar wished she could get close enough to ask, but the Starclan entity kept a good distance between herself and it. The trees flashed by and the scent of Roseclan drifted in the crisp night air. The moon light, still slightly full, was the only reason Ghoststar was able to follow the figure as it glittered and flashed. She could hear Scorchtooth behind her and wondered briefly if he saw the cat too. The trees thinned and the slope increased. The white she-cat felt her heart stop when she lost sight of the cat over the hill. "No!" They weren't going to find where to meet starclan. Not if this cat wouldn't slow down!
Scorchtooth had caught up to his leader, panting as his yellow eyes stared up the hill. "Quiet! Do you realize how deep we are in Roseclan territory??" He swung his head back to look through the trees. "Why don't you just call to their camp and say 'hey, come and rip our pelts off for trespassing'?" The black tom's pelt was lashing as they ran.
Ghoststar had become oblivious to the fact of where they were. They reached the top of the hill and as the pale she-cat looked down it she was shocked of what she saw. A gleaming rock stood in a clearing at the base of the hill. The mysterious red cat was gone. The boulder was large and the only thing, beside a thin scattering of ferns, that was in the area. Ghoststar looked at Scorchtooth, her ears pricked.
"We still don't know if Starclan will share in your dreams here."
"They will." She replied, sure of it. The black tom scoffed as they headed down the hill. Ghoststar wasn't sure what to do. Scorchtooth instructed her quietly.
"Just lay down next to the rock and touch your nose to it. If you dream of starclan, great. If not, this little escapade was a complete waste." Ghoststar wasn't encouraged by his tone. She hated feeling like a mouse-brained kit, which always seemed to be his goal. The white she-cat shot him a glare with her gray eyes and lied down. She gently touched her nose to the rock, bracing for cold, but was instead shocked by a warmth. It seemed to radiate from within the great stone and immediately soothed her to sleep.
           ***
Starlight...grass...cats?  Ghoststar tried to identify the things around her as she woke. Was anything different? Was she dreaming? Scorchtooth was no where to be seen and the huge boulder that had been in front of her before was gone now. She was in an empty field with a heavy scent of cat around her. "Hello?" She called out with a tentativeness. As she spoke figures seemed to take shape around her out of thin air. She hadn't realized they had been standing there the whole time.
"Greetings, Ghost." A cat stepped out of the group of patterned fur. It was the red cat she had seen all those times. It bothered her slightly they referred to her by her old name. Ghoststar wanted to point out that her name had changed, but suddenly she had lost her voice. "I am Foxstar, former leader of a clan that used to dwell here. Nightclan."
Ghoststar looked around at the crowd. A clan had lived here before Roseclan? Before Twilightclan? She was amazed.
"You want your nine lives. You want to be true leader of Twilightclan. We will grant you all that, but you must understand one thing: more lives is different than more power." Foxstar meowed this with an intense warning. Ghoststar gritted her teeth. The white she-cat couldn't understand why she would say that. "You can always put more stones into a lake, but that does not change how the lake holds water."
Ghoststar was even more confused. Why did Starclan have to speak in such an inauspicious tone? She quickly forgot their words as Foxstar continued on.
"With this life, I give you humility. Never overestimate yourself: remember all cats have the same ability and possibilities." The russet red she-cat leaned forward, causing Ghoststar to have an immediate instinct to pull away but her body seemed frozen in the cold, still air. As soon as their noses touched, Ghoststar was filled with a feeling of insignificance. The world suddenly seemed so big. There were huge, thick oaks that seemed to touch the sky. Mountains that rose up out of the land defiantly against all gravity. Animals that were huge and powerful even as cubs, pups, and calves. She closed her eyes tightly, wishing away the images. Foxstar stepped away, but the feeling lingered.
Other cats stepped forward, some young, some battle scared. She received her eight other lives with similar over powering feelings.
The life of courage: there was first an overwhelming fear, but then a burst of bravery that dwarfed the freight.
The life of empathy: Ghoststar was in a glen full of tender, beautiful daisy's. She had to take great care to walk amongst them, not wanting to crush any.
The life of pride: Ghoststar looked at Twilightclan and admired the group they had become. She would never doubt them.
The life of unity: cats were being swept by a current and the only way to get out was to create a chain and cling to one another.
The life of vitality: Ghoststar felt a surge of electric energy course through her. Her whole body twitched against the force holding her still.
The life of wisdom: Ghoststar felt enlightened as she looked back at her life and understood things she hadn't before. She felt more ready for decisions to come.
The life of patience: Ghoststar felt at peace with all the things around her.
The life of ingenuity: the world all seemed more beautiful in itself. The colors, the sounds; she wouldn't look at any situation the same.
By the end of all her lives, Ghoststar felt exhausted and yet invigorated. She could finally move and speak. "Thank you! Starclan..I'm so glad I get to be honored by you." She purred loudly the cats around her. They nodded simultaneously. Foxstar stepped back out forward.
"With the power of Starclan you will be known as Ghoststar. Lead your clan to the best of your ability and up hold the warrior code." Ghoststar cocked her head at the last part.
              "Warrior code?"
"Scorchtooth will teach you. We will send him a sign." Ghoststar didn't have a moment to inquire anything else. She was jolted awake suddenly with a feeling she was falling, and the scene faded. The white she-cat raised her head to see the glowing boulder and the quiet clearing.
"Scorchtooth?" She called softly, wondering if he was still there.

  1. Brownfur regarded her apprentice with a flick of an ear. /Already trained in hunting? That's impressive. I may have to have a word with Redclaw later, about how Streampaw learns best./ She purred. "That's excellent, Streampaw. But, TwilightClan has a special way of hunting. We are ambushers, masters in hunting in dim lighting, with only our noses and ears to guide us along as we glide over the ground. You still have much to learn, little one." Her voice was gentle as she cuffed her apprentice's ear with her tail gently.

  2. "Oh now I didn't not know that.."she purred looking off into the forest. "Well I'm ready when u are." Her fur bristled with excitment.

  3. "What?" The old cat yawned, drawing a paw over his ear to clean - seemingly uninterested. Although he noticed something different about his leader - and he had a rather good guess why - he would rather she tell him first.

  4. Ghoststar sat up, shaking out her snow white fur. It was almost dawn. I really slept that long!? She looked at Scorchtooth with worry. "We have to get out of Roseclan territory now! They'll be sending their dawn patrols out and find us!" She knew this could compromise relations between the two clans. She would have to explain her dream later.

  5. Tawnynight was on patrol with Redclaw. "So how are you enjoying your new clan?"she sounded like she was back to normal after Talonpaw rejected her.

Boulderclaw has been worried about Ghoststar, "ugh...I hope she's okay. When is she going to be back, did something go wrong? I can't take long distance relationships...I jus- I can't..." his voice echoed from the warriors den as he paced back and forth.

  6. Redclaw looked at her with bright eyes then looked down with a raised brow. "Eh its okay but everyone is wondering why I left my old clan and I want to tell them but I don't know I just, just need time..."he felt that he could be himself around Tawnynight which was something he couldn't do with most other cats.

  7. "Hmmm well don't let them bother you okay?"she said sweetly looking down shyly.

    ReplyDelete
  8. "Haha don't worry I won't. "He said smiling at her with bright green eyes.

  9. They finished the patrol with a little rivalery on hunting. "I bet I can hunt faster then you can. "Tawnynight taunted with a giggle.

    ReplyDelete
  10. "Oh really?" He grinned getting down in a crouch ready to race off to prove her competely wrong. "Want to find that you'll lose the bet?"

    ReplyDelete
  11. "I doubt I'll lose, ready, get set, go!!"she speed off through the dense forest looking for prey to catch.

  12. Brownfur trotted ahead, her new apprentice following close behind. The she-cat stopped suddenly and held her tail out to still the younger cat. "Do you hear that?" She whispered. "That's the scufflings of a mouse. It doesn't know we're here. I want to see what you can do. Hunt it."

  13. Streampaw eyes grew in size," Okay you wont be disappointed!"she said as quiet as her vocal cords could go due to the excitement that just kept climbing. She slipped away following the sweet smell of the tiny mouse, with every breath she took she could feel is tiny heart beat getting faster. "There you are.."Her voice quiet and slow. The grey she-cat jumped pouncing heavily on the tiny body crushing every bone. "Oooh, maybe she wont notice..."Her ears swiveled back uncomfortably.

The broad ginger tom dashed after her looking for something to hunt. then right when he turned his head he caught sight of a plump vole. "Come to papa ha-ha.."he slowed down waiting till he could get close enough; then with one swipe of the paw he kills the creature without a sound of doubt. Score one for me now lets make it two...

  16. Redclaw turned to leave grabbing the slightly plump vole with his powerful jaws. Tje ginger tom had no luck in finding another piece of fresh kill, so set out to look for the dark brown she-cat he was with earlier. "Tawnynight where are you at?" he mumbled around the small creatures fur.

  17. Tawnynight was on her way to look for Redclaw but ran right into him nose to nose, "Oh ouch, I'm sorry I was looking for you...I didn't get anything."she backed out in pain as her eyes watered.

  18. "Ow uh its, its fine i got one thing. So i win he-he its too bad we didn't bet..."he smiled passed the vole clamped in his jaws. "We lets get back to camp...if you want if there isn't enough prey for everyone else we can share..." he said shyly pawing at the dirt with a white paw.

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Oh its fine...and sure i'd like that. Come on let's um, get back."she blushed feeling her fur turn hot red. Tawnynight walked with the ginger tom, constantly turning her gaze to him then look forward.

  20. Scorthtooth scoffed. "Oh, so now you think invading another Clan's territory is more important than visiting StarClan?" He began to get up hastily. "Well come on, then! I'd rather not sit here all day and possibly have our pelts skinned by these pampered warriors.." Why wouldn't StarClan let me witness Ghoststar's ceremony? What happened that they couldn't let me see? Have they finally decided to take away my position? Worthless hags..

    ReplyDelete
  21. Brownfur trotted to her apprentice's side and looked to examine the kill. Her tail flicked with amusement. "You killed it, I'll give you that. Let's just hope Scorchtooth doesn't get his paws on this mouse." She did not want to see the grouchy medicine cat after he ate a mouse that was smashed like this. "You landed too hard on it. You have to be graceful and slide across the ground. When you land on the prey, you want to make sure you don't actually land on it, but on the ground next to it. You kill it with a bite to the neck."

  22. Streampaw looked up at her mentor. "Its just it was the only way Redclaw knows so I know how to do that...sometimes he can control his weight but other times he can't..."she said looking back down at the now crushed and limp body. It layed motionless between her paws as her claws dug through the soft dirt.

Redclaw smiled knowing she was looking at him when they got back to camp he set the prey down looking at the pile to see only three things.

  23. Ghoststar flattened her ears at his tone, but didn't have time to argue. She headed up the hill at a sprint, hoping the old cat could keep up. Starclan, please don't let Roseclan find us here! The white she-cat felt vulnerable in the thin woods. It wasn't like Twilighclan territory where she could hide in the deep foliage. Here she stood out like a fox in two-leg place. "We're almost out!" She panted a purr. They hadn't come across any patrols and might not.

Snakefang looked for Featherpaw in the Apprentice den. "Featherpaw, time for training!"

Talonpaw saw Tawnynight come in with Redclaw. The way they looked at each other with made his stomach flare. The ginger tom walked over casually, pawing through the prey pile even though he wasn't hungry. "How was hunting, new guy?" Talonpaw meowed to Redclaw with a glint in his brown eyes. He didn't look at Tawnynight next to the red and white tabby warrior.

  24. The broad tom nodded to tell the other cat it was fine. He turned his attention to Tawynight flicking his head to a soft spot they could lay down and eat together. As he turned he purred a quick goodbye to Talonpaw; then trotted over to the plush soft in the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  25. (Not then* 'Talonpaw, he trotted over to the plush spot* in the ground.')

  26. Tawnynight's eyes light up a bright green that smiled with a hint of shyness. She looked at Talonpaw with eyes she would look at another cat but as her green gaze shifted to Redclaw they changed. "Hey Redclaw...c-can I tell you something...?" She asked sitting down with him. Letting the ginger take the first bite.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Redclaw nodded raising his brows looking her over with soft eyes. He took a bit swallowing quietly, "Yeah what is it?"his eyes held concern not sure what she might ask. Oh no, is she going to friend zone me? What if she's got some sickness? She's got kits!? oh great, okay its okay..its okay she doesn't have kit or isn't, she does look sick. So its just the friend zone problem...

  28. "I am the granddaughter of Scourage the evil leader of Bloodclan...and if we are going to be close I have to know you won't judge me unlike someone else I know...so can I. Trust you and will you believe me when I say I'm not like them?"

    ReplyDelete
  29. The dark she-cat make sure she was loud enough only Talonpaw and Redclaw heard. Her gaze looked toward Talonpaw to see his reaction.

  30. Redclaw's ginger ears drew back for a second as he looked at her, then he knodded. "That doesn't matter to me...you do." He smiled coming close to her pressing his warm body to hers."it doesn't matter if you were one of them, because you are youself. You gave it up to come here. I won't judge you for your past you can trust me."Redclaw began to groom her back as they ate.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Brownfur considered Streampaw's words carefully. "I see," she said, understanding. "Don't worry. I'll teach you how to be a stealthy hunter, one who kills beautifully and gracefully. And perhaps one day you'll pass on those skills to an apprentice of your own." She purred, resting her tail tip on the apprentice's shoulder.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Streampaw knodded quietly grabbing the mangled body. "What now?"she asked not as thrilled or happy anymore. The she-cat felt like a mouse-brain screw up with a limp.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tawnynight sighed with heavy relief. "Thank you Redclaw you have no idea at how safe and happy it makes me feel to be trusted..."she could feel her breath become shakey as his tounge groomed her thick fur. She licked the top of his head as they finished the vole he had caught earilier.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Talonpaw watched the two with flattened ears. He stalked away heavily and out into the forest. "Whatever..." He bit back his jealousy. He let her go, and they were just friends. No reason to care. The ginger tom decided to hunt. He crouched, lashing his tail and sniffed for prey.

  37. (Yea...poor lil bugga. I believe you'll find someone)

  38. Scorchtooth parted his mouth, trying to drink in the scents around him to see if he could detect anything - which was hard, especially at full sprint. Does she really think we'll get out of here with no problems, whatsoever? So far, the only thing the medicine cat could detect was a strange feeling of dread.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Brownfur placed a reassuring lick between Streampaw's ears. "I say we'll head back to camp for now. Tomorrow we'll work on hunting, okay? Maybe I'll ask if Redclaw can come along."

  40. (Whateves! Lol he'll find someone else XP)

Ghoststar couldn't run anymore. From the flood of emotions and feelings in her dream that drained her, now the sprinting and panting was too much. She slowed to a stop, hanging her head as exhaustion stung her muscles. "I...cant..." She sat heavily. "W-we have to take a break." She felt her heart pounding in her chest. Scorchtooth is going to think I'm weak. Roseclan is going to find us. She felt fear pump through her veins. What kind of a leader was she?

Talonpaw heard Brownfur and Streampaw. He got up from his crouch and padded out of the ferns to catch the brown she-cat's last words. "Mind if I join you?" He mewed with his ears pricked and tail arched.

  41. Brownfur looked at Talonpaw and blinked a few times. "Oh, of course. I'm sure it'll do her some good." She nodded to the gray she-cat. "Talonpaw's a fun cat," she purred. "I'm sure you'll two be good friends."

    ReplyDelete
  42. Streampaw nodded her spirits rose when she saw Talonpaw arrive. "Great I can't wait can I go tell Redclaw about my now?"she asked looking at Talonpaw then Browfur.

  43. "You're just asking for someone to find us, aren't you?" Scorchtooth hissed as he slowed down his pace to fall beside his leader. "I'd rather not get run over by a hoard of mouse-brained warriors, but it's your choice." I just hope Ghoststar knows what to do when we get caught.. Lie. "What happened during the ceremony, anyways? Now that we seem to be having a leisure walk in enemy territory, it seems appropriate to ask." Though he had to admit he wanted to stop as much as Ghoststar, he couldn't let her have this one.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Boulderclaw began to worry even more about Ghoststar, "W-where is she, is she okay?? I have to go look for her..."he was pacing in camp then shot of through the opening leading out of camp to look for them. On he's way out he almost him Talonpaw but he jumped over him just in time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ghoststar flashed a look at Scorchtooth. Did he ever not have something sarcastic to spit out? The white she cat tried to at least keep a fast walk. She pricked her ears at his question, the memory and feeling of what happened still fresh in her mind. "Well, there were lots of cats. Lots of them. We were in an empty clearing, kind of like the one the rock was in." She began, her gray gaze flicking as she kept alert for a patrol. "A red cat, Foxstar she called herself, came up and spoke to me. Apparently there was a clan here before us. She was the first to give me my lives. Then more cats walked up to me and it was..." she took in a shaky breath, his limbs throbbing. "It was a painful experience. " Ghoststar decided not to mention the ominous words they told her, nor that he would receive a sign of some kind telling him to teach her the warrior code.

Talonpaw was waiting for Brownfur to give streampaw permission to go talk to Redclaw when Boulderclaw jumped over his head. "Whoa! Watch it!" He said, not necessarily angry but surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Boulderclaw looked over his shoulder, "sorry bud!!"he turned and continued running first he looked at the other side of the territory for her. "Ghoststar!? Ghoststar!" His eyes were shot with anxiety.

    ReplyDelete
  47. "No one said it was going to be fun experience, I'll tell you that. Did she mention what Clan?" At least we've figured out what cat has been bombarding her with so many visions... Foxstar... No, doesn't sound too familiar... "What exactly do you want to learn from these cats? Surely if they came to give you your nine lives, they must be important in the making of TwilightClan." If we knew more about the Clan, even it's past name, we could ask cats around this area if they remember anything.. Rogues, loners, kitty-pets, anyone would do.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ghoststar shook her head lightly. "I hardly caught the name...Nightclan, was it? I think so." She licked a sore paw, her gray gaze caste around nervously. "They didn't say much..just something weird...kind of like.." She twisted her expression, unsure whether to tell him. "A warning." About me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. "Doesn't sound familiar, at all.." Scorchtooth grunted, displeased with their findings of their newly found ancestors. He narrowed his eyes when he heard the word 'warning'. "Why didn't you tell me this in the first place? What was it? Please tell me it was at least a good one..." His eyes had widened, for a warning from StarClan could mean anything.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ghoststar shuffled her paws like a kit who was about to be scolded. "They said something about power." She began, her gray gaze watching him with muddled confusion. "Something like more lives is different than more power." The white she-cat looked down. "They aren't worried about me, are they?"
